Threads of May 2025

Hey hey, friends!

🎉 May the 4th be with you! I hope your bobbin is threaded, your seam ripper is bored, and your pressing station is hotter than Mustafar. And don’t forget — tomorrow is Cinco de Mayo, which I fully intend to celebrate with a few tacos… and maybe a fat quarter bundle or two (fabric, not guac, although both are extra).

April flew by in a flurry of stitches, livestreams, and big announcements — here’s what’s been happening:

🧵 QAL Block 4: Check!

We rolled out Block 4 of the 2025 Quilt-Along! I love seeing your versions pop up on socials — keep tagging me so I can cheer you on!

🎁 Parker’s Quilt is Finished!

Do you remember that Layer Cake Tango quilt I started during one of my livestreams? Well… I actually finished it! Not only that, but I gifted it to Parker — and let me tell you, there were definitely some big feelings involved. 🩵

I’ve been working on a full video that walks you through the entire journey of making this quilt — from that very first livestream stitch, all the way to the emotional moment I wrapped it up and handed it over. That video will be dropping on my YouTube channel in mid-May, so keep your eyes peeled if you love behind-the-scenes peeks at my creative process.

And if you missed the original livestream where this whole project kicked off, don’t worry — you can still watch the replay here.

👯‍♀️ Mary Came to Visit!

My bestie Mary — also known as the Crafty Panda — came all the way up from South Carolina for a visit, and it was exactly the kind of soul-filling, joy-packed time I didn’t know I needed. We hadn’t seen each other in far too long, but the moment she walked through the door, it was like pressing play on a paused movie — instant laughs, big hugs, and about three conversations happening at once.

We packed as much fun as we could into her visit: late-night quilting marathons, coffee runs that turned into fabric store detours (naturally), and nonstop laughter. We dove into impromptu projects, swapped stories, shared ideas, and stitched for hours — just like old times.

The house felt warmer with her here — the kind of cozy, creative energy that makes even a cluttered sewing room feel perfect. I’m already missing her like crazy and counting down to our next crafty adventure. Whether we’re side by side or catching up virtually, I’m so grateful to have a creative soul sister like her in my life.

🏡 Retreat Weekend at Lake Gaston

I also had the absolute pleasure of spending a long weekend surrounded by some of my favorite quilting friends at the Retreat at Lake Gaston, hosted by the wonderful folks over at Cary Quilting. And let me just say — it was exactly the kind of getaway every quilter dreams of.

The retreat space itself is stunning — a cozy, well-equipped haven nestled right by the lake, with enough room to comfortably host 9 to 12 quilters. It was the perfect mix of peaceful views and creative energy. As soon as we arrived, we settled into our sewing stations (and claimed our spots at the snack table, let’s be honest), and the magic began.

We packed the weekend full of everything that makes quilting retreats so special: endless stitching sessions, spontaneous show-and-tells, lots of laughter echoing through the halls, and a shared love of fabric, thread, and friendship. From early morning coffee chats in our PJs to late-night sewing marathons powered by chocolate and caffeine, it was pure joy from start to finish.

And of course — shenanigans. Oh, were there shenanigans. The kind that only happen when you get a bunch of creative souls in one space with no bedtime and a mountain of fabric scraps. Let’s just say there was a lot of inside-joke-making, story-swapping, and not-so-serious “helpful critiques” flying around as we all worked on our individual projects.

If you've ever thought about planning a quilting retreat of your own — whether it’s with your guild, a group of friends, or even just a few like-minded makers — I highly recommend checking out the Retreat at Lake Gaston. It was the perfect blend of inspiration, relaxation, and creative freedom. You can find more details through Cary Quilting, and if you do end up booking, make sure to tell them that Sew Becca sent you!

🚢 Cruise Announcement

In case you missed it, I’m going on a quilting cruise to Alaska! Yep — in August 2026, Ian (aka Off Kilter Crafter), Tiffany (Tiffany’s Quilting Life), and I are heading north with RGE Travels for an unforgettable sailing + stitching adventure! You must book through RGE to be part of the group, and the quilting portion is an optional add-on — so bring a friend or partner along for the trip even if they’re not quilting-inclined.
